a full day with the amazing chandler. a slightly edited memory of that day, pulled from my dead blog:

chandler picked me up at 10, and we set off on an adventure to olympic national park. via ferry, through woods, over channels, up winding roads… we ate a simple lunch at hurricane ridge, sharing the picnic table with a european couple (we couldn’t place the accents. german? swedish?) that lived in sequim, the lavender capital of north america, which we had just driven through.

glaciers, atmospheric perspective, wildflowers… it was so beautiful. on the way up to the ridge, we could see canada and vancouver island was visible, and if you squinted, you could see the town of victoria. we could see san juan island and the dungeness spit. we could also see mount baker, mount adams, and glacier peak. chandler pointed everything out to me.

once back at sea level, chandler drove me to lake crescent. it’s a glacially-carved lake, over 600 feet deep. about 15 feet from the shoreline, we could see where the rocky bottom dropped off into unknown depths, turning the water a turquoise blue. chandler’s knowledge of the region is fascinating, and i was riveted. we spent over 12 hours together, most of them in the car, and i loved every minute.

our last stop for the day was port townsend. we stopped at the light house while the sun set, and for dinner we went to fins, and i had my first ever bowl of clam chowder.

i still can’t believe she’s left us.
